Thank you, Isobel!

A huge thank you to a fantastic volunteer! Isobel Taylor has just spent the last 6 weeks with us and we are so sorry to see her go! Isobel got stuck in from the very first day, covering for staff holidays and bonding with the residents. In her spare time she helped out in our community work and she also set up a fantastic program in our Day Centre; teaching sex education, gender equality, domestic violence, money management and CV writing skills. All vital lifeskills that local children are generally not taught in schools or by their parents. We marked her last day with a surprise show by the residents and a surprise horse and cart trip through the village! Isobel bought...

Toys donated to local pre-schools

In December we were happy to receive, from Ireland, lots and lots of toys, some brand new and others second hand. Most of them we used as Christmas presents for our residents, for our Day Centre children and for 100′s of village children. Others we donated to a Special Needs school in the local town of Tecuci and we STILL had lots left over! We decided that to benefit as many kids as possible, we would donate the rest to two different pre-schools in local villages that are even smaller and poorer than Nicoresti! As you can see the young children were thrilled to bits! Thanks to all who donated toys!

A New Year Present for 8 lucky families!

In 2007 our charity started work on “Blue Vale”, a community housing project consisting of 18 homes and a children’s park. These houses were built specifically for young families who were either homeless or living in very cramped conditions. The intention was to give these families an opportunity to build a future for their children, at the same time we were very careful not to let them become too dependent on the charity, only offering extra help in special circumstances (sickness or disabilities etc). Happily the majority have made the most of that opportunity by taking good care of their homes and going out to work, where possible, to provide for their families....
